President Donald Trump has said the United States should acknowledge Israeli sovereignty over the hotly-contested Golan Heights, in what’s seen as a major pre-election gift for his ally Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Syrian government condemned Trump’s pledge, saying it flies in the face of international law.
