If you’re of a certain age, you know “The Goonies” better than you know most movies.
An entire generation’s love of Baby Ruth candy bars, the “Truffle Shuffle” and pirate ships can be traced back to the 1985 cult classic, starring a who’s who of 1980s young stars, including Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman and Ke Huy Quan. The movie, based on a story developed by none other than Steven Spielberg and directed by Richard Donner, is as good today as it ever was.
But here’s something you may not know: While most of “The Goonies” was set and shot on location in Astoria, Oregon, the film’s climactic scenes at the fictional “Cauldron Point” were filmed at Goat Rock Beach, two hours north of San Francisco, just north of Bodega Bay along the gorgeous Sonoma Coast.
