‘Two types of convergence’ transform broadcast and AV

AV and broadcast convergence is often talked of as though there was one phenomenon at work, at least by speakers from the pro AV world.

But there are two types of convergence that can be seen in the market for media technology, according to Lorenzo Zanni, head of knowledge at IABM, the international broadcast and media trade association.

Speaking yesterday at the Upstream conference, jointly organised by AVIXA and the IABM and hosted by futurist Amelia Kallman at the QEII centre in London, Zanni made a distinction between mediatech convergence and business convergence.

Mediatech convergence consists of a blurring of the lines of demarcation between what he called media-specific and general-purpose technology of the kind used in corporate and educational settings.
