Perhaps you have wondered how I ended up in Maple Lake. Maybe you didn’t, but here it is. Some might say it was Fate. I really don’t think the Three Fates at their spinning wheel pushed me into Wright County. After all, they were part of the history of Ancient Greece and probably never heard of Maple Lake.

However, the road to Maple Lake had some unusual twists. I started teaching at Albany High School. I had applied for a job in Mora, Minnesota. After an interview I was offered a position but was told that whoever they hired to direct plays had first choice of the three English openings. That’s when an unknown force entered. Kismet? An unsolicited phone call put me in touch with the superintendent at Albany. He read my file at the St. Cloud State Placement Office and wanted to interview me. I had time before I decided whether to accept Mora’s offer. I…
