NBDA urges I&B min to stop DoT from auctioning more C-band spectrum for 5G services

The News Broadcasters & Digital Association (NBDA) has dialled the ministry of information & broadcasting (I&B) to stop the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) from auctioning a chunk of airwaves in the C-band — popularly known as mid-band spectrum – for 5G services. The broadcasters have warned that such a move would totally disrupt broadcast services, cause heavy interference and eventually ring the death knell of the country’s broadcast sector.“…it is believed the DoT is considering auction of the following bands, 3700-4000 MHz (out of 3700-4200 MHz downlink band) and 5925-6225 MHz (out of 5925 to 6425 MHz uplink band) for 5G purposes…it will significantly reduce C-band spectrum available for broadcast services, which will be completely disrupted,” the NBDA said in a letter, dated April 18, to the secretary, ministry of I&B.
