As a Palestinian living in Israel, Mohammad Darawshe says that he and his people are in “a very difficult situation” as the Israel-Gaza conflict escalates.
He is the Director of Strategy at the Givat Haviva Center for Shared Society, an organisation that works to bridge the gap between Israel’s Jewish and Arab citizens.
“From one end, we are citizens of Israel, we live in Israel, our destiny — even after whatever peace deal comes — is going to remain in Israel,” he told ABC NewsRadio from Iksal in northern Israel, where his family has lived for generations.
“And at the same time, we disagree with their current action in the excessive use of force that they’re using in Gaza, which puts us outside the mainstream in Israeli society,” Mr Darawshe said.
