The competition watchdog is investigating GAAGO after politicians heard both RTÉ and the GAA did not seek approval for the pay-per-view streaming service, as revealed in the Irish Daily Mail last week.
The inquiry is over an expansion of the match-streaming service, which previously only had permission from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) to broadcast to international customers.
Since the pandemic, GAAGO began broadcasting matches to domestic audiences and this year took over Sky Sports’ GAA’s broadcasting rights, when it failed to renew its deal.
The CCPC confirmed to the Irish Daily Mail it has been investigating GAAGO for potential breaches of competition law since May.
