Shameless actor William H Macy has been lined up to guest star in season five of The Conners.
The Roseanne spin-off follows the titular family as they deal with parenthood, relationships and financial pressures in a working-class America.
Macy will play Smitty, a visitor to Lanford who is one of Dan’s (John Goodman) closest friends from high school, according to Variety.
The role reunites the actor with his former on-screen daughter Emma Kenney, who played Debbie Gallagher in Shameless opposite Macy’s patriarch Frank.

Following the conclusion of Shameless‘ ten-year run in 2021, Macy starred in Hulu’s The Dropout, a dramatisation of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes’ fraudulent attempts to revolutionise the healthcare industry.
