The media regulator has just allocated France Télévisions numbers 52 and 53 of TNT, on which France 2 UHD and France 3 UHD will be broadcast. A first major step for the transition from DTT to 4K, which should be completed by 2029.
France TV is often criticized for lagging behind on 4K (TF1 and M6 have special antennas, turned on occasionally, unlike the public service), but the television group should catch up very soon, by becoming the first major broadcaster to offer its channels in 4K on DTT (and not from operators).
As at the time of the SD/HD transition, the future France 2 UHD and France 3 UHD channels should not replace the historic channels.
