Sentech’s digital terrestrial television (DTT) network covers 80.43% of the South African population using the DVB-T2 standard, CEO of the signal distributor, Setumo Mohapi, reiterated at a press briefing today (9 April 2013).
This milestone was achieved on 28 March 2013, Mohapi said.
The state-owned company has also been trialling the DVB-T2-Lite profile of the Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial version 2 (DVB-T2) standard for mobile broadcasting.
Mohapi explained that DVB-H (or DVB – Handheld) is already being used in South Africa, but Sentech are running trials on various other standards.
One of its customers has been running a trial on the Korean DMB standard for two years, Mohapi said.
