A League of Their Own is a huge step up from the film

There’s no denying that 1992’s League of Their Own is an iconic gem. A female-centric movie that didn’t revolve around a love story was pretty rare in the ’90s.

Its hot and steamy passion was reserved instead for the game of baseball. While there were career-defining romances that jostled for attention (Megan Cavanagh’s Marla Hooch and her unexpected nuptials spring to mind) baseball was what grounded the film.

If you’ve felt nostalgic for a quick watch ahead of the upcoming release of the TV reboot, however, you’ll quickly realise the film is beginning to show its age.

Under the harsh glare of the 2022 lights the once punchy and revolutionary watch feels dated in the modern space. It comes across as linear in its thinking and though it tried, it failed to grasp the complexities of women.
