“Franken FM” radio stations are about to get clarity on their future.
The Federal Communications Commission will consider their fate at its meeting in July. It will vote on a proposal to allow those FM6 stations, which operate just below the regular FM band, to continue providing their analog radio service by authorizing them as ancillary or supplementary services.
Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel listed it as an agenda item for the July meeting. Seeming confident in its passage, she described the vote as the FCC “preserving established local programming for radio audiences.” It is not immediately clear if the proposal being voted on would go beyond grandfathering current FM6 stations. The public draft of the document is to be released Thursday.
