Thales, a world leader in cybersecurity, has created the first real-world application of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) in its flagship secure mobile application, “Cryptosmart”, leveraging 5G SIM cards for PQC. In the pilot project, hybrid encryption (pre and post-quantum encryption) was used in a telephone call between two devices to protect the information exchanged during the call. Thales has invested in and tested post-quantum cybersecurity technologies over the past decade to prepare for these emerging threats.
