New research from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) shows China has overtaken Western countries in 80 per cent of all critical future technologies. In fact, Europeans no longer play any role. Within a few decades, China could play a global role equal to that of European countries during the colonial era.
Thanks to a number of factors, the People’s Republic of China is rapidly rising to global technological leadership. The Chinese lead in a total of 19 of the 23 technology sectors examined by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), while the United States – still – leads in the remaining four sectors. Europeans, Japan and South Korea no longer play a role. This applies to both military and civilian sectors.
