Nonprofit wants to join fight against 9 new cell towers along Jersey Shore

A non-profit group is joining with Belmar and Monmouth County in their ongoing effort to prevent the erection of nine Verizon 5G towers along the town’s shoreline.

Children’s Health Defense filed a Motion to Intervene and a supporting memorandum on Sept. 27 in federal court on behalf of its Monmouth members in an effort to stop the towers from being built along Ocean Avenue near the boardwalk.

The move follows a lawsuit filed earlier in the month in which Verizon Wireless sued Monmouth County, arguing that the company’s application to build the towers was unlawfully denied.

“In contrast to the immediate and irreparable injury being suffered by Verizon, its customers, and the public interest, the defendants will suffer no significant injury if the court issues the requested injunction,” the suit read. “As such, Verizon is entitled to a judgment and order of permanent…
