Jio Wants Government To Shut 2G And 3G Services, All You Need To Know

Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, has emphasized its desire for a “2G Mukt” (2G-free) India and called for a government policy to phase out 2G and 3G networks in the country. In response to a consultation paper from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on ‘Digital Transformation through 5G Ecosystem,’ both Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea have suggested that the government should facilitate the shutdown of legacy networks and migrate users to 4G and 5G networks.

The consultation paper sought input from stakeholders on challenges and opportunities related to developing the 5G ecosystem in India and potential policy interventions. According to Reliance Jio, discontinuing 2G and 3G networks would prevent unnecessary costs and enhance the development of 5G use cases.
