For the time being, the Federal Network Agency does not have to take any special measures to support 1&1 as a newcomer to the ranks of mobile network operators. This emerges from a report written by the research institute WIK-Consult together with the consulting firm Ernst & Young on behalf of the regulatory authority. Overall, there is “effective competition on both the end customer and wholesale markets” in the mobile communications market. There are also “no signs of a future deterioration in competitive conditions to the detriment of end customers”. The situation also offers sufficient incentives for network operators, “in particular to overcome the challenge of data growth with the need for further network investments.”
