Alberta O. Jones Park to open, offer free 5G internet access

A park honoring civil rights activist and attorney Alberta O. Jones will open to the public Saturday, roughly one year after the Louisville Metro Council approved its name.

The grand opening ceremony for the California neighborhood park in west Louisville will take place at 3:30 p.m.

When it opens, the 20-acre park will be the first in the West End to “provide complimentary high-speed, next-generation internet for all visitors,” according to a news release. The installation of a 5G Wi-Fi network was made possible by a $42,000 donation from Stock Yards Bank & Trust.

The nonprofit Parks Alliance of Louisville, which asked Metro Council to pass an order establishing the park after learning nearly 40% of the neighborhood’s residents didn’t have access to a vehicle, praised the installation of the 5G network.
