Tom Lantos, who was the only Holocaust survivor in Congress, passed away in February 2008. Among many other accomplishments in a three-decade congressional career, Tom Lantos led the enactment of the 2004 Global Antisemitism Review Act. Every year from 2009 to 2012 and again in 2014-2015, the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) and the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights & Justice held bipartisan events in the Speaker’s Dining Room at the Capitol commemorating Tom Lantos and his legacy. The 2009 event also inaugurated the Tom Lantos Archives on Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial, and reports of the Archives’ findings were presented at each of the subsequent events. The Tom Lantos Archives are the world’s largest resource on this subject, featuring materials from Arabic, Farsi, Urdu/Pashtu, Turkish, and Dari media.
