Century-Old Law Leaves US Government in Losing Position Against CCP’s Propaganda War

In 2021, the Department of Justice (DOJ) demanded that the Chinese language Sing Tao News Corporation register as a foreign agent. But the efforts from the U.S. government have done little to stop the media group from helping the Chinese regime’s propaganda efforts in the United States.

Sing Tao Daily is the oldest and second-largest Chinese-language newspaper in Hong Kong. Chinese real estate tycoon Guo Yingcheng currently owns Sing Tao News Corporation.

The DOJ’s decision to make Sing Tao’s U.S. version a Chinese agent was based on the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), a law that was enacted about 85 years ago in 1938.

Sing Tao did comply with FARA following the DOJ’s demand. However, it has kept its anti-U.S. disinformation campaign going.
