Ministry says Iraqi agriculture revitalized by recent rainfall

SULAIMANI — The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture said on
Saturday (March 18) that farms have been revived significantly due to heavy
rainfall.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mahdi Sahar al-Jubouri,
said water reserves in Iraq have increased and the risk of drought in the
country is no longer high.

He added that crops, in particular wheat and barley, have
been significantly revitalized due to the recent rainfall.

The crops will fill Iraq’s internal needs, he stated.

The country has been facing water trouble for years and the
Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Diab, said Turkey is building 20 more dams on
water resources that are the main source of Iraq’s rivers.
