When NBCUniversal Television and Streaming Chairman Mark Lazarus was asked to assess the media business, he responded with one word.

“Unsettled.”

Speaking at SBJ’s Media Innovators conference in New York last week, Lazarus referenced video disruptions from streaming, digital and social as causing traditional media companies to change how they approach the business.

“It doesn’t appear that it’s going to stop,” Lazarus said. “We just have to get used to being unsettled and move with the audiences.”

That means getting used to smaller audiences for programming on linear television and streaming, primarily due to the amount of video competition in the marketplace.
