Radio Wyvern is to return to the airwaves of Worcestershire following the rebranding of a popular local station.

Youthcomm Radio will rebrand itself Radio Wyvern from October.

The popular local station will take over the Youthcomm Radio transmitters and broadcast to the two counties on FM and DAB digital radio

The idea of Radio Wyvern was born 42 years ago when local music producer Muff Murfin had an idea whilst working in the former Russell and Dorrell department store in Worcester’s High Street.

Determined that Worcester needed a local radio station, he got together with a group of local businessmen and two years later on October 4, 1982, Muff and local DJ Sammy Southall were part of the team that launched one of the UK’s first local radio stations. The station was later taken over and in 2012 was rebranded Free Radio.
