Metro district goes digital after finding guns at school twice in first week – 95.5 WSB

ROME, Ga. — The Rome City Schools Board of Education met Friday afternoon to discuss safety in their schools after guns were found on campus twice during the first week of classes.

Students at the 11 schools in the district went back to school on July 29.

In less than a week, district officials say they have caught students bringing guns onto Rome High School’s campus.

School administrators say the first student brought a gun to school on Wednesday, but they were immediately notified and the student was questioned. The gun was never used to threaten anyone else on campus.

The district reported the next day that a second student had brought a gun to Rome High School.

Administrators say the gun was found with the student, but it was never used to threaten anyone else. The student turned the gun over to law enforcement after being caught.
