Cairn Energy is confident of winning its $1.6 billion tax dispute with the Indian government and has launched plans to look at drilling off Nicaragua. Simon Thomson, chief executive of the oil and gas explorer, said the intention would be to return a significant sum to shareholders if an international arbitration panel found in its favour.
