IRRI International Rice Research Institute : and CSIRO collaborate on new ways to protect rice crops from devastating diseases

Magnaporthe oryzae , the fungus that causes rice blast, is one of the most destructive pathogens affecting rice production. According to a 2016 US study , approximately 30% of rice crop production losses globally are due to rice blast, a substantial deficit which is the equivalent of feeding about 60 million people.
