Youth choirs host celebration for Mandela’s 100th birthday

Known internationally for his political activism, Mandela spent more than 25 years in prison for fighting to dismantle apartheid, the systemic, race-based segregation and discrimination in South Africa from 1948 until the early 1990s. Mandela served as South Africa’s president from 1994 to 1999, becoming the country’s first black head of state.
