It’s only just over two years ago since Philipp Wollscheid was the toast of Stoke City thanks to a stellar display in defence in League Cup semi-final against Liverpool. Pushed out by Mark Hughes at the end of that season, he spent a difficult year on loan at Wolfsburg before, to cut a long story short, joining Metz in Ligue 1 last summer.
