The DJ on going from playing pirates as a child in Dorset to hosting pirate radio

I fell in love with soul music when, as a child, I heard my father playing a Jackie Wilson record. And I suppose I fell in love with America then, too. By 1966, I was working on pirate radio in the UK, and I went on my first trip to the States simply because I wanted to listen to American stations.
