HF Radio Assisting Disaster Relief in Peru

In Peru, a country regularly effected by severe flooding, landslides and other natural disasters, a community of similar four-wheel drive enthusiasts, with a heart to serve those impacted by natural disasters, have come together to support aid agency efforts in remote regions throughout the country.

It was a useful one, too: I’d roll tape on Radio Moscow or some other international broadcaster and would now and again get a bite of sound to use in radio newscasts with which I was at the time involved.

A Technical History

David Hartt came to Haiti as a missionary in 1942 with the West Indies Mission (WIM, now Worldteam). Although a missionary pastor by job description, radio was always his passion. He had been a radio ham and experimenter since childhood. Although he didn't have formal engineering training, he became knowledgeable through self-study.

ABC opposes bill to restore Pacific shortwave service

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has made a Senate submission opposing a bill which would force it to restore its shortwave services for the Northern Territory and the Pacific. The bill was introduced by South Australian Senator Nick Xenophon after the ABC switched off its shortwave transmitters in late January.

H. Eugene Blackwell of Brockton died April 25 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. He was 82. Mr. Blackwell was born in Bridgewater. He served in the Air Force for 20 years.
