Kevin Rudd is treading – albeit much more dramatically – a well-worn path among Australian politicians. Those who wield power – or covet it – curry favour with Rupert Murdoch. Those out of power, and whose political ambitions are over, criticise him. This pattern became firmly entrenched following the 1987 changes to media ownership laws.
