Article: Here's looking at us!

When we were discussing how to mark the passing of RNW’s English service, I somehow managed to volunteer to put together a slideshow of faces down the ages. Many of them will be less than familiar even to our regular listeners simply because, for many of the past decades, we were a radio station.

Article: The last day of English broadcasts at RNW

I've made my feelings known in a previous comment but I heard the close down last night with one radio tuned to 15495khz and another tuned to 6065khz. It is a stange but wonderful characteristic of short wave that a signal from so far away (Madagascar, I believe) can be heard more strongly than one from a mere few hundred miles away.

Thank you for listening

These are the last words spoken live on air by Jonathan Groubert on 29 June 2012, marking the end to broadcasts in English from Radio Netherlands Worldwide. Listener Andreas Knedlik recorded the last goodbye as he heard it on shortwave in Europe. -- 'THE END' -- 22:52 [Dutch time - One minute music bed (from the latest RNW format)].

Yours sincerely – What words can’t express...

Your response to our announcement that the English service of Radio Netherlands Worldwide will be closing has been amazing. It is so good to hear how much you will miss us - and of course we’ll miss you too! Graham Foy (UK) really sums it all up by saying “words can’t express my sadness at the loss of this great international broadcaster”.

Sudan (the): Spread the News: Radio Programming Along the North-South Border

Source: US Institute of Peace Country: Sudan (the) June 2012 | Olive Branch Post by Elizabeth Murray June 21, 2012 “There is a new radio, talking about the problems between the North and the South. We find it very interesting and we are trying to listen,” says an East Darfuri of the USIP-supported Radio Tamazuj.

We're changing

What a pity! Closing down the English service of Radio Nederlands!!?? Due to Budget Cuts. Barbarous to state it mildly. I never knew that there was a country called Netherlands and a language called Dutch until I heard Radio Nederlands. I have fond memories of Radio Nederlands right from 1970s of....

Article: We're changing

A sad development. We are all poorer when diverse voices are 'silenced' because of 'money'. I fear it is too late for Radio Nederland, (I'm old, it is how I think of you) but there is a lesson here for others. Are the other International Broadcasters listening? It may not be too late for them!....

We're changing

I'm deeply concerned at the loss of these great short wave broadcasters. Several stations have recently announced their scaling back of services. I was hoping that Radio Netherlands Worldwide would be able to continue something, because I find their broadcasts so useful. Unlike many individuals here, I'm not a long term RNW listener.
