When Allison Dettore was 16 years old, she heard a Christian radio broadcast about little girls in China who had been orphaned — largely a result of that country’s one-child policy. At that moment, she decided she would one day adopt an unwanted baby from that country. She even shared her plan with her now husband, Dave, when they started dating.
