KORAPUT: To reach remote areas and ensure that people listen to radio more clearly without any interruption, a newly installed 100KW digital-ready high-power medium wave (MV) transmitter was commissioned at the All India Radio (AIR) centre in Jeypore in the district recently.

Fiji's prime minister says all Fijians can now tune in to the 'national dialogue' following the rehabilitation of the country's medium wave radio infrastructure. The Japanese government provided $US7 million for the rehabilitation which took over 18 months to complete. It included the installation of a 60 metre antenna with two AM transmitters.

About 20 years ago I saw a 1950s Bush radio at an auction, a glorious thing with medium wave, long wave and VHF, now known as FM. It had lots of cities listed on the tuning dial, not one of them outside Europe, and the cabinet looked great. It worked fine, and after spirited bidding it was knocked down to me for $18.
